   this is the worst war movie ever made. disgusting, degrading shameful. i am ashamed of taking my daughters and sitting through the entire disgusting film.

   do not waste your time unless you want to feel terrible about our military and the fine men who serve or if you want to see just how bad hollywood can portray the military and our society.

   Saw the movie last night and thought it was fascinating to watch the characters develop and become a unit.  I enjoyed the the entire film, the connection with ‘Full Metal Jacket’, Apocolypse Now and Deer Hunter.  Walked out of the theatre, listening to the younger guys behind me, thinking:  this film will do for the Marines what ‘Top Gun’ did for the Naval Air Corps.

   i think this movie showed alot more of the real aspects of life as a jarhead.

   Jarhead was completely vile and disgusting. I left the theatre before the movie was finished. I’m used to swearing and sexual content… but this movie took things way too far to the point where I felt violated. I can’t believe I wasted 8 bucks on this garbage. If you have a shred of morality in you, this movie will violate it.

   It didn’t get the definition of Jarhead right at the beginning of this flick and just went downhill from there.  The films within the film pretty much sum it up.  They didn’t get it right either.  If lies can be art then how can art be truth?  Just remember; freedom of expression in Hollywood only belongs to those who own the cameras.  We have a saying in the corps: “You always have your ten percenters”.  Swofford is one of those ten percenters.  The proof; he got out of the corps after four years as a Lance Corporal.  ‘Nuf said.

   Ever since this movie has come out, I have heard, and read, a lot of bellyaching from Marines (mostly those who served well after ‘91.  The Corps back then was known as the most intellegent in history, and from several of the comments, I can only believe that is still true.  Swofford may not have been the protypical ideal Marine, but the fact that he did survive Scout/Sniper school should say alot for his physical and mental capacities.  Also, it is impossible to properly convey the feelings that those of my generation felt at going to a war in which we were told that we were all going to die, but saw no action.  We were told that we were heroes, and that we had broken the Vietnam curse, but all we did was guard vast areas of desert.  As a Gulf War vet, I can say that I was able to identify with what Swofford was trying to convey, and to him I say “Semper Fi”.  To all those detractors who were not there, but seem to know everything, a Marine does not choose his war, the war chooses him.  Good luck to everyone overseas.  Keep your heads down.
