   Just say the film last night at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin Texas and was so pleasantly surprised that I purchased it this afternoon.  A wonderful tale of vengeance, MACHINE GIRL is one hell of a way for Nikkatsu pictures (makers of brilliant noir ala VELVET HUSTLER and COLT IS MY PASSPORT) to reinvent itself.  Ninjas, yakuza, schoolgirls, bullies, holes punched through heads and torsos, tempura, drill bras, implied sex with the dead, arterial spray not seen since MONTY PYTHON AND THE HOLY GRAIL, missing limbs, finger sushi. Somewhere there’s even a plot but who cares with all the good old fashioned violence happening.  Highly recommended for it’s valuable lesson: machine guns are not as effective against football players as you’d think.

   I saw this available in the horror DVDs at Best Buy #4 in Minnetonka MN on Saturday. IIRC it was $12.99. I didn’t pick it up, but they had multiple copies. I was pretty surprised given the recent trailer coverage here. I didn’t expect it on DVD for a while yet.

   Just watched this last night and had an absolute blast with it. ALthough, I think it’s important to admit, I was completely sloshed. I’ll be ordering a copy of Sukeban Boy with my next pay check.

   Now if only The New York Asian Film Festival and Subway Cinema would update their damn site with the festival schedule. I’ll be in town for the Mermaid Parade and I want to see Tokyo Gore Police dammit.

   Oh… And I bought Machine Girl for 10 bucks at Walmart two weeks before the street date!!!!! I now live in bumblefuck PA, far far away from my last home, New York where Kim’s Video was my own little oasis. I can’t find shit out here and was absolutely stunned to find this at the Walmart, they must of had 40 copies on the new release shelf!! My assumption is that someone like me must be working at this particular store and decided to place his own order. What’s even more shocking is that it’s not some heavily cut version. As far as I can tell, it’s the original, unrated version.

   So, for those of you who are lazy about ordering stuff online like myself, check your local walmart and save 8 bucks off the retail price!
