We are big, big fans of Katsuhito Ishii’s Funky Forest: The First COntact around here, the surreal stew of quirky characters and sketches proving to be a near perfect cult movie experience.  Seriously, there’s nothing else out there quite like this one and while it won’t be for everyone, those who get it will get it hard.  But as much as I love the film I’ve always thought it was far too odd for a North American distributor to take a chance on, thankfully VIZ Pictures have proven me wrong.  The film releases on DVD in North America March 18th and if the specs are any indication it looks as though VIZ are simply copying the excellent Japanese release with subtitles added to the special feature.  Yes, please.

You’ll find a pair of teasers and the full trailer in the Twitch Player below the break.

Had no idea Kazue Fukishii was in this. She was amazing in Noriko’s Dinner Table. To be honest, I haven’t been excited about much that Viz has released. Aside from Train Man and A Taste of Tea, their offerings (film and treatment wise) have been mediocre at best. Still, this one’s going on my wish list immediately smile

Good timing. I was about to order japanese edition.
Now, please Survive style 5, Mind Game and Kemonozume on R1!!!
