Female Demon Ohyaku
One of the movies I look forward to the most in 2007 is David Lynch’s self distributed, digitally shot (on consumer grade equipment) 3 hour opus, Inland Empire. The first trailer thus far, in muddy YouTube format, offered a glimpse at how ugly Lynch wants his muse, Laura Dern, to look in the film. The second trailer (also in muddy YouTube format) is now online, and offers a host of new scenes from the film, with that signature Lynchian feel going on.
Inland Empire has been spotted on quite a number of ‘best of 2006’ lists in the mainstream press, and has baffled an equal number of reviewers as well. Par for the course, i must admit. Here is hoping that it spreads out a from limited release at a quicker pace than it has thus far.

I’ve always found Laura Dern kind of unsettling, and it’s amazing how monstrous she is in this film. It’s basically a three-hour close-up of her increasingly agonized and horrific face. Not one to see at IMAX!

IMAX. Hah.
With regards to Dern, Lynch must have a thing for that facial type...See also Patricia Arquette in Lost Highway!

Through the circumstances of geography, I’ve managed to see this twice; luckily the first time (when I was really tired) with an actor friend. We had a great discussion afterwards which keyed me into a couple of things, and a second viewing reinforced the conversation.
I have to say - this is probably one of the top two movies I saw last year, and concrete evidence that David Lynch is doing even more than people think he is.

Can anyone tell me when and where Inland Empire will be showing in the UK, I live in Norfolk and fear it won’t be reaching such small time towns! Also when will the UK dvd release date be…
