We get to see a ton of films at festivals well before they get any kind of theatrical release. For example, here are nine titles that are opening or expanding in limited release in the US today, eight of which we’ve reviewed. Click under “Related Links” below to read more.

Go see a movie this weekend!

Opening:
Dreams with Sharp Teeth (NY). Writer Harlan Ellison’s fiercely independent spirit, prickly personality, and towering talent is documented by director Erik Nelson. I love this movie.
The Go-Getter (NY, LA). Not an entirely successful road movie, but casts a loose-knit, ramshackle spell. With Lou Taylor Pucci, Zooey Deschanel, and Jena Malone.
Mongol (limited). Todd thought this was a massive, impressive epic, as long as you don’t expect too much action. Collin was also guardedly positive, if not enthusiastic.
Mother of Tears (limited). Kurt was profoundly disappointed by Dario Argento’s latest horror (parody?).
The Promotion (NY, LA). Sean William Scott and John C. Reilly star as grocery store assistant managers competing for a new job. I thought it was an unexpected and very welcome surprise. Drolly funny.

Expanding:
Bigger, Stronger, Faster*. Everything you ever wanted to know about steroids, told by a body builder whose brothers are steroid users. I reviewed this for another site, but it’s still a very good movie!
The Foot Fist Way. Danny McBride as a Tae Kwon Do instructor with big problems. Twisted and funny, says me.
Reprise. Smart, meaningful, entertaining film by Joachim Trier that Todd “very highly recommended.”
Stuck. Stuart Gordon’s superb, socially conscious thriller, couched with plenty of dark humor and enough grisly pain to satisfy enlightened horror junkies. Michael called it “a thrillingly outrageous howler.”
