I should be interested in the new Incredible Hulk movie because, you know, I like the character, which I do. Or, failing that, I should be interested because it stars Tim Roth and Ed Norton, both of whom are huge favourites of mine. But, really, I’m not. Sure, I’m curious to see it but if I’m being honest it’s mostly because they shot it here in Toronto and a few months ago the lady friend and I wandered through the middle of the re-dressed Yonge Street set and the next day the boy went positively ballistic when we drove past a parking lot positively loaded with smashed and burnt out automobile wreckage. It’s a local thing, you see, I want to see how much of home makes it on to the big screen.
And based on the just released trailer there’s rather a lot of it. That final shot? The Apollo Theater doesn’t actually exist but two prominent Toronto landmarks - the Sam The Record Man spinning discs and the marquee of Zanzibar, a prominent peeler joint - are right there front and centre. Hulk smash Yonge Street! Smash!

two things:
1. that opening scene where the two men are sitting by the fire in the perfectly styled house and ‘bruce’ is confessing to his male friend that there’s aspects of his personality that he can’t control… um.. alittle gay..
2. there was nothing at all original/compelling/exciting about this trailer. wow, two obviously CG creatures running at eachother down a wrecked city street. great. i can’t even imagine how boring its going to be to have to watch P of what i already saw in the last hulk movie with a few modified action scenes. great.

I still don’t understand why everybody hated the last Hulk movie, I loved that movie and I don’t even really like the Hulk that much as a comic character.

It’s such a shame that theatre-going crowds rightly jump at the chance to see novel productions of the same plays they’ve already seen but cinema audiences usually tolerate just one or two per generation. If ‘Infamous’ and ‘Capote’ were a couple of stage plays that came out months apart, the same audiences might have happily paid to see both.
Having said that, does it make me a hypocrite to wonder why the world needs another Hulk movie? I’m with Cheech on wondering what all the hate for Ang’s version was about. Seeing this trailer makes me appreciate the directions Ang Lee took with his, even if that does make me a pompous ass.

Also, I share Todd’s joy at seeing Canada get some onscreen love after being Hollywood’s gracious ghost-host for so long.
Now, if they decided to remake Lady Vengeance and set it in TORONTO, I’d probably have to take flight with my fellow swine until my teeth stopped spinning.

Is there something wrong when I recognize Zanzibar and I don’t even live in Toronto.
I though that the Sam the Record Man lights were off in real life. Did they turn them back on just for the movie or were the digitally lit up?

Oh btw having a movie like the hulk shot in your town is pretty cool. There was a movie made just around the corner from my house, only it was ‘Deuce Bigalow: European gigolo’ so I was less inclined to go check out the results.
Todd Brown 03/13/2008 @ 10:43am
John: Sam’s is bankrupt but the building - including the lights - have been declared a historic site so nobody can ever take them down. They’re still there, not sure how often they’re lit up but it seems to be a fairly regular thing.

And you can also count me in with the people who like Ang’s version. I thought the ending got kind of muddy but I loved it up to that point ...

Ug. Not impressed. Actually more than a bit embarassing, if only that it is so obviously a reboot for a film that is only a few years old. And a film that was likely more ambitious, interesting, stylized and better acted that this one is going to be.
Long live Ang Lee’s version.

I’m interested in seeing the HULK, the most destructively powerful force in the universe (arguably) fight an opponant worthy of him, as opposed to a poodle. So when I heard it was Abomination, I was elated. Until I saw him. Why must they always deviate from an established design just for the sake of doing so? Either look like Abomination, or call him BigMonsterGuy instead. Ears would help here. http://tinyurl.com/yq2nkf Looks so much better.

I wasn’t impressed with Ang Lee’s HULK, but I don’t think the new one looks good, nor do I see the need for another one. I think they should do a Hulk movie in which the green man is past his prime. He’d have a beer gut and chase little girls in the park, and for extra money he’d start turning tricks. Any movie studio can take that idea if they want it, free of charge.

Looks much better in HI-DEF, youtube doesn’t do it justice.

Actually, if my eyes aren’t deceiving me, those spinning disc lights are already gone - as I walked by where they used to be earlier today…

Hey guys, I liked the first hulk movie too and I’m looking forwart to viewing the next one. Love to see things getting smashed. Looks like he’ll have his big mits full with the abomination.
