The Nantes Festival Of Three Continents was where Malaysian director Ho Yuhang got his first international recognition, and this makes his Best Director award, for Rain Dogs, all the sweeter.

Golden Screen Cinemas, which screened Rain Dogs here in Malaysia, issued a press release today announcing the win. Ho’s first film, Min, about an adopted girl searching for her birth mother, won the Special Jury Award at the 2003 festival.

Ho was reported to have thanked Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau, whose company Focus Films funded Rain Dogs, for giving him the opportunity and the artistic freedom to make Rain Dogs.

The film has travelled to Venice, Toronto, Vancouver, Pusan and Tokyo, and has just gone to the Thessaloniki festival in Greece. Ho also won Best New Director at the Hong Kong-Asia Film Festival.
