Hide The Microphones!  Here Comes KARAOKE TERROR!

We have long lamented the lack of an English friendly release of Japanese cult flick Karaoke Terror (aka The Complete Japanese Showa Songbook) in these parts.  If ever a film seemed destined for instant cult success this was it, telling the story of a gang of young karaoke singing men led by Ryuhei Matsuda and Masanobu Ando in an increasingly violent and bloody conflict with a group of similarly vocal-minded middle aged women.  It’s very violent, very funny and features a cast stacked with what are now big names within the Japanese film industry.  But I guess it just came a little too soon ... Matsuda and Ando are both more than big enough stars to carry a film solo now but back then neither of them had really proven themselves and while writer Ryu Murakami - of Coin Locker Babies fame, and author of the source novel here - had already acheived some western notoriety as the screen writer for Takashi Miike’s Audition his was the biggest name involved at the time and it simply wasn’t judged big enough, apparently, and so the film has slipped under the radar for about five years now.

But no more!  Synapse Films release it on DVD next month and we’ve gotten our grubby little hands on a trio of proper trailers for the film!  There’s a brief television spot, a longer teaser, and a full length theatrical trailer.  You’ll find all three embedded below the break in the Twitch Player.

I know some people at the sales company handling Coin Locker Babies and they’re looking into the current status for me.
