Ha Ji-Won Presents ‘형사’ (‘Duelist’), the Action Melodrama

Ha Ji-Won, whose latest film ’형사’ (‘Duelist’) will soon have its press screening, had a quick interview with the Korean press. After the films wrapped up shooting, she took a short break in New Zealand to recharge her batteries. Here’s a few edited highlights:

You got hurt while shooting the film. How are you feeling now?
Ha Ji-Won: It still hurts when I try to move my neck. When I broke my neck bone three months ago I didn’t even realize it, since my entire body was aching. I got treatment and massages, and while doing that I realized it had been broken for the last two months. The doctor was shocked I could go on for so long.

We’ve heard the film has been officially invited to the Toronto International Film Festival.

Ha (to the director): Since they’re not bringing us to Toronto, it didn’t hit us yet. We’ve decided to do PR at home while the director goes abroad. I was always ready to go… (laughs). Finally we’ll have our press screening tomorrow.

The original scripts of Duelist and the TV Drama ’다모’ (‘Damo’) look similar.

Ha: Since I worked on Damo before, I started worrying. But once I knew Lee Myung-Se wrote the script I felt a sense of relief. Some things might be similar with Damo, but the majority is different. That’s something for the audience to judge, anyway.

How do Chae-Ok in ‘Damo’ and Nam-Soon in ‘Duelist’ differ?
Ha: I couldn’t help but keep in mind Chae-Ok But I forgot about her while shooting as Nam-Soon. And they’re different: Nam-Soon never hides and she’s the first to use her fists. To show Nam-Soon’s feelings I even used Jeolla Province Accent.

How about the action scenes? Was it hard?
Ha: The action in the film is different from Hong Kong wire action. It’s also very different from what I did in Damo, I’d say it was even harder for me. I also went from using a long sword to 20 cm long knives.
Is this an Action film or a Melodrama?

Ha: I think it’s become an Action Melodrama. While falling in love with a person, you fight with him, your love buried inside the sword. It’s just a different way of portraying love, without going overboard with sentiment…

    Hajiwon when performing is always at her best.. She possess the character in her.. No wonder when I watched her films and TV series over a digital format..her character diferentiates always leaves a mark to the audience.. Thumbs up for A Ha-jiwon truly proud of this actress.

    Just finished watching MEMORIES OF BALI today. Cable TV in Malaysia are quite outdated when it comes to airing good K-Drama series. Before this series, i never bother to watch any Korean drama except for the lighthearted drama Joyful Girl’s Success Story as i found most of them can be quite melodramatic at times e.g. Winter Sonata (used to be very popular back in 2002 but never been a fan of it). However, this all change when i started watching MOB. Actually, i missed the first few episodes of it but strong acting from all the leading characters (well almost all, i find the guy playing Kang In-Wook very passive and creepy looking too) really got me hooked on the series. The heroin, Ha Ji-Won and the real hero (rather spoilt and immature one some may say) of this drama, Jo In Sung has that certain chemistry which only few other acting couples had. I like Ha Ji-Won and i find her a very charming girl indeed. As for Mr Jo In Sung, thumbs up for those intense acting of yours. Stil can’t understand why all the ladies in MOB went ga ga on that creepy looking guy. Jo In Sung character is more appealing and he is 10X better looking too. I guess Malaysian women look at men differently.

    ha ji won is amazing artist. I saw it damo and memories of bali. His chemistry with jo in sung is unbelievable. They are good artist and able to bring out the character they are in much more to greater level.

    JO IN SUNG ruleeeeeezzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!! I have to admitted that together with Ha Ji-Won, they make a very lovely couple, the chemistry between them just work so well. Yup, his character in “Bali” is so complex and loving and more appealing to women and young girls everywhere. The reason that all the women in that drama “Bali” were all wooing after that “creepy guy” is because the script was written that way…LOL.

    Ha Ji Won itu aktris tercantik di dunia.Dia gak hanya cantik tapi juga dewasa,pintar,jiwa sosialnya tinggi banget.Bayangin aja dia Itu mau menyumbangkan sebuah mobil seharga ratusan juta,buat membantu fakir miskin di Jepang .Aku suka banget sama akting dia,gak dibuat buat,dia bisa berakting apa aja.Aku benar-benar kaget ketika tau bahwa Aku dan Ha Ji Won lahir pada tanggal dan bulan yang sama,ya cuma beda tahun nya aja sih.Aku 28 Juni 1988 dan Ha Ji Won 28 Juni 1979.Aku merasa kita berdua memiliki sifat yang sama.Setiap hari aku selalu tonton film-fim dia.Kayak Love So Divine,100 Day With Mr.Arrogant,Daddy Long Legs,dan masih banyak lagi deh.Aku gak ada bosan-bosannya lihat film itu.Memories Of Bali juga aku tonton tiap hari.Foto foto Ha Ji Won semuanya aku punya.Ha Ji Won itu idola aku untuk yang terakhir kalinya,dia benar-benar inspirasi hidupku.Aku aja ingin seperti dia.

    ha ji won’s performance in Damo was magnificient. I was really amazed with her acting skills. although, personally, i don’t think that she is a beauty, she is a talented actress with much to offer the korean industry.
