Blood Brothers
The nominees for this year’s Golden Globe Awards have been announced with Atonement leading the pack with seven nominations. Personally, I always find the Globes a more interesting award than the Oscars purely because they’re less predictable, each year featuring some surprising nominations and winners. Among the more interesting nominations on the film side this year: No Country For Old Men and There Will Be Blood duke it out for best drama, Sweeney Todd - which I’ve seen but been sworn to secrecy on - is a very deserving nominee for best comedy / musical though it couldn’t be farther away from the comic end of the spectrum, Casey Affleck gets some love for The Assassination of Jesse James, Aaron Sorkin - who’s just way too smart for TV - gets a nod for best screenplay for Charlie Wilson’s War, and Persepolis gets a nod for best foreign language but NOT best animated feature. Find the complete list below the break.

Let me start off by saying that I consider most of these awards spectacles devoid of any purpose beyond industry masturbation. That’s goes doubly for The Golden Globes and the HFP.
Some things that jumped out to me:
- 7 BP/D nominations? Odd, especially considering what got in (The Great Debaters?)
- P.T. Anderson...out?
- How could they leave out Johnny Greenwood’s score for There Will Be Blood? Not to mention the scores for Lust, Caution and The Assassination of Jesse James. Shaemful.
- Paul Dano not getting a nom for TWBB
- No Apatow representation in in the BP/C category? Uh-huh.
- John Travolta? John Travolta?!
- Can’t complain about the Best Actor/Drama category but I would have Josh Brolin over Denzel Washington.
And the less said about the TV side of things, the better. What a farce.

Lol, Golden Globes are a joke. Where is Once in all this, not even nominated in the music categories. Not to mention Jesse James…

Boo. HFP. Boo. I’ve never understood the credibility for this organization which seems more intent on ‘buying-off’ the talent for a big celebrity hand-shake love-in than any semblance of taste.
Ah Well. Moving Along....
