Give A Geek A Gift!

Yes, it’s that time of year where we all suddenly realize that we’ve got just a couple weeks left to buy something nice for everyone you know or risk incurring their wrath.  But what to get?  Never fear, the Twitch team is here with some suggestions for the geekier folk on your list.  Yes, you could always go the safe route and stock up on DVDs - and if you do so we’d like it rather a lot if you were to do so via our affiliates YesAsia, Amazon US, or Amazon UK - and may we be so bold as to recommend this is a prime time to pick up an all region DVD player to open a world of possibilities to a film lover in your world?  But, anyone can come up with stuff like that and the Twitch folk have come up with a few items we consider rather more interesting.  Just hope the Santa that brings them is more the friendly variety and less the angry Icelandic variety pictured to the left ...

If you are going to go the DVD route there’s no question what the prime target should be for any discerning film geek:  the five disc, suitcase packaged, Blade Runner Final Cut.  The film is an undisputed classic with a long and difficult history and this is, without a doubt, the edition to have.  All previous editions are included along with copious bonus features and the just completed “Final Cut” of the film, in which director Ridley Scott was finally able to go back and make all the final tweaks and changes to make the film into the picture he always intended it to be.  Yes, please.

On standard def.
On Blu-Ray
On HD DVD

Because, you know, he did.

Okay, this one’s a find by Ardvark and it takes a bit of explaining.  It’s a fan.  It keeps you cool.  It also has colored LED lights embedded into the blades.  Why would you want that?  Because it allows you to upload movie clips to the fan which are then displayed on the fan blades as they spin.  Wacky.

Inflatable death!  Woo!

Get it hereAlso available as bubbly death!

If you prefer your death to be of the more organic variety how about your own wee terrarium loaded up with plants that eat stuff?  Yeah, that’s the way to pass the time at the office ... all you need is a collection flies and crickets to feed the things ...

Get ‘em here.

..

Because a TV should be more than just a box.  I shall pause writing this now to wipe up my drool.

Get ‘em here.

Another suggestion from Ardvark here that requires a bit of explanation.  What you’re look at is a pair of Zalman Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound headset.  Yeah, you read that right. A pair of headphones with full surround sound thanks to the three speakers per ear.  Sweeeeeeeet ... and surprisingly cheap, too.

Get ‘em here.

Perhaps a little something to go with the t-shirt up above?  Yup, it’s Star Wars flash drives!

Get ‘em here.

There’s lots more out there, so let’s hear your suggestions!  What are the best geek gifts going this season?

Where is the HIGHLANDER series of (head removing) flash drives?

Oh yea, I forgot, there can be only one.

Dude there is this Cell phone extension you can get that cracks me up. It’s a normal hand held phone with a cable that you connect to your cell phone but you use the normal phone to speak into! I don’t know where it is but that’s hilarious, to me

Damn it. I can’t order those headphones from Amazon or their affiliates, well the ones that do offer shipping more expensive than the product.

Would any of the following qualify? Those who are into “The Man From Uncle” or maybe “Get Smart” might want these under their xmas trees:

Swarez, I said it once and I’ll say it again: that’s what you get when you think about leaving the Coalition of the Willing!

I found my headset in a computer store though. Can’t you Google to see who has Zalman stuff in their catalogue in Iceland? The brand is basically known for making silent coolers and silent desktop-cases.

Do note that these headsets are made to be plugged into a desktop soundcard (three plugs). I know some home cinema amplifiers which can fit these plugs but mine doesn’t so I just use it on the computer. Great for playing “FarCry” because you can almost pinpoint the enemy (and that effing helicopter) by sound alone, which is useful in all that jungle…
