Kung Fu Hustle
We first wrote about Thai action-fantasy Siyama all the way back in July of 2006, at which point the film had already launched into a lengthy post-production process that continues to this day. And, generally, when mid to low budget films need this much post it’s generally not a good thing. The film tells the story of modern teens transported back in time where they become involved in a full scale battle between an invading army and a badly outnumbered village and while the just released trailer completely ignores the time travel element - a telling sign - what is in there actually looks quite good. This one comes from Thai production house Mono Film, whose output has been spotty since emerging with action picture The Tiger Blade. For my money Vengeance is by far the best of their action pictures while drama My Myself with Ananda Everingham generated strong critical response, while the rest of their material has been a good step behind. So take this as you will.
