Hellboy
Taiwanese singer turned actor Jay Chou certainly seems to have a nose for success ... while nobody was raving about his performance in Initial D he held his own quite well in Zhang Yimou’s Curse of the Golden Flower and won himself a good number of awards for his first leading part in Secret. And now he’s back on the big screen with the upcoming martial arts sports hybrid Kung Fu Dunk. Yes, it’s a goofy premise but these things have been made to work before - notably Stephen Chow’s Shaolin Soccer - and the initial teaser showed a good visual style, at least. And now the full trailer has arrived and while I’m not prepared to declare it a success just yet the trailer makes the film look a good bit better than it has any right to be. You’ll find both the teaser and the trailer embedded in the Twitch Video Player just after the break.

I totally knew that, too ... sometime my fingers are faster than my brain. Thanks for catching it!

Siu-tung can do no wrong. Also, sports-martial arts hybrid comedies hold such obvious possibility, I’m surprised to hear people already grumbling about diminishing returns. Screw that, bring on the knockoff! Shaolin Soccer and Prince of Tennis both satisfied. KFD and Shaolin Girl don’t look like disasters. Any others I missed?

... Ping-Pong had a touch of this flavor also. Haven’t seen a bad one of these yet, so why stop? Track-kata? Capoeira Bocce?? I’m there!

This looks...not very good at all, not to mention i had enough of canto-pop idols. I’ll pass.

If anyone in the production is reading this. You need a shot where the hero dunks the ball and the net bursts in to flames.
This doesn’t look like it’s the same goof ball humor that Stephen Chow used. Actually it looked like it took itself rather seriously.

Men from looking at the trailer it reminded me of the popular NBA JAM..dont get me wrong it looks awesome..but will it possibly work storyline of basketball and Kung-FU.

Said it before, will say it again. Director “Kevin Chu” is really Chu Yin Ping, the mad genius behind FANTASY MISSION FORCE and the SHAOLIN POPEY films. That alone makes this a must-see for me.

even if it’s a serious movie, it can still be fun. Jay Chou writes some of the best Mandarin pop and movie theme songs this side of the universe, so i’m looking forward to the Kung Fu Dunk theme.
