An Empress and the Warriors
While I still expect that the film will be re-titled some time soon as it has no relation whatsoever to the original Ong Bak beyond star Tony Jaa - who makes his directorial debut here - there are a pair of fresh poster images for Ong Bak 2 and they’re looking rather nice indeed. In this one Jaa stars in a period piece as a poor orphan boy raised by a collection of martial arts masters from across Asia and ends up an expert in all, fusing the styles into a comprehensive fighting style. The promo for this that was on display in Cannes is absolutely spectacular - very well shot, loaded with action in a huge range of styles, and surprisingly bloody. Unless it’s let down by the script this will be truly incredible.

Script? Who’s writing?

As if it matters who is writting, it will be good no matter what !!

All of the non-action bits of Tom Yum Goong say different. Tony needs a good script very soon - I’d say he’s got one more shot after this - if he’s ever going to break out of the hardcore martial arts ghetto.

Any chance of that promo ever turning up online?

Kung-Fu is like porno. The more action the better. Screw the plot.
quadshock 05/25/2008 @ 10:49pm
never under stand why movie goers could ever say “screw the plot”. A plot is required for a movie to be a good movie and not just be amazing/revolutionary in a single respect.

Mike: I’ve asked about the promo. Time will tell.

Isn’t it called The Protector?
bazuden 05/26/2008 @ 1:21am
Sorry. That was Tom Yum Goong - which was also titled Ong Bak 2 post-release, apparently.

Neat. Thanks.

Only thing that made Ong Bak 1 barable to watch was the action. I’m not sure I’m even interested to see the followup if they don’t shape up the acting.

Come on, what modern Thai action film hasn’t been ruined by the script and laughable acting?
ChevalierAguila 05/26/2008 @ 4:07pm
It can’t be worst than Flashpoint’s script.
momodotcom 05/27/2008 @ 2:16am
at least Flashpoint tried to make a story. Buddha heads? Stolen Elephants?
But yes...Flashpoint really lacked in the story department.
Milkyway 05/28/2008 @ 8:18am
Flash Point had better direction, production values and better acting so it’s legitimately good for being an action potboiler.
