Smile Babo

This one’s for regular Twitch-lad Rhythm-X who, in the comments section for yesterday’s post about Highlander director Russell Mulcahey’s upcoming action flick Courier with Adrien Brody, asked why we hadn’t yet said anything about Mulcahey’s current project - the currently in post action-noir Give ‘Em Hell Malone. The answer, of course, is because we are dumb. And so here it is.
The cult Aussie director steps firmly into noir territory with this one, casting Thomas Jane as a rugged private eye hired to retrieve a mysterious gangster. Big bad mob man - Ving Rhames - is going to get in the way of course, and the obligatory femme fatale - played by Chris (sister of Donnie) Yen - will surely complicate matters. And many, many asses will be kicked.
Critics have always slammed Mulcahey for shooting his films like music videos - the exact reason his fans have always loved him - and the early sales promo for this one certainly showcases the trademark style. Check it out below the break.

Love the shot of the guy flying through the window in the beginning. Looks alright, strange that Wing Rhames is nowhere to be seen in the trailer though.

The trailer is sloppy (a hot mess really) but I am quite sure this will be great, given how much I love Thomas Jane and these kinds of movies. There seems to be a lot of this noir-inspired films coming out now so I guess I better finish editing the short film Breaking Blackheart, I made this summer so I can throw my own crime story into the mix (though it is more Get Carter and less 50’s noir.)

It’s more a sales promo than a trailer ... not nearly a polished as the commercial trailers will be, no doubt.

No doubt. Honestly, I hope Russell Mulcahey only makes these kinds of movies from now on. I am so tired of all of these PG-13 pseudo thrillers. I want to see dangerous men and beautiful women and blurred moral lines.

Hell yes! Good thing someone reminded you, cause this I will have to see asap!

Yeah, it’s definitely not a trailer, so it’s impossible to tell if the film will play out well. Since the story is total stock, it’s completely dependent on decent writing and strong acting, neither of which are shown or heard here.
But man, it LOOKS badass. It still might suck, but at this point, cout me in, I’m definitely intrigued and this is by far this best thing I’ve seen online today.

Good script or not, it looks like one hell of a ride.

It’s cool enough to take 80% of the suck out of “Bad To The Bone”, a song that’s been defiled in far, far too many trailers. I have no idea why they wouldn’t spend the extra half hour to polish that sales reel up a little, because that looks like a bunch of really rather nice and professionally made film footage that got stolen from an insecure server and was promtly put on YouTube by your hypothetical thirteen year old cousin Sara. That font is simply uncivilized and unacceptable.

Hah. Yea, that font cracks me up.
