If You Were Me 4

This is a bit of a perplexing one. New Russian fantasy film 1612 strikes a bit of an odd position to these eyes with scenes of almost Hallmark-y sweetness jammed up next to bursts of extreme violence. It’s more than a little bit jarring and I can’t imagine who they’re trying to market it to but the attention to detail and quality of the production design is undeniable. The winged Hussar cavalry are flat out stunning on screen and I’m curious to see more.

Actually, it is not fantasy movie, but historical one.
It is dedicated to invasion of Poles in 1612 on Russia, and occupation of Moscow by Poles.

Well, note that the awesome Hussars are actually Polish troops and are presented here better than in any Polish movie.
The film looks obviously anti-Polish, but strangely features a well-known Polish actor.

Historical? With a unicorn?
Da Russia 10/04/2007 @ 10:58am
Yes, historical, and yes, with a unicorn (probably from the dream of some hero).
The film dedicated to Time of Troubles and people’s resistance against polish invasion. Check here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Time_of_Troubles
“who they’re trying to market it”
I bet that Poland will definetely buy the movie.

Looks good. Budget is pretty high at $12 million. And yes, historical.
There will be Polish interest I think, but will be interesting to compare this film with Ogniem i Mieczem and the other two films in that trilogy.

I am certainly interested. Being Norwegian I don’t speak much Russian but I’ll see it with subtitles if need be. Actually I’ll buy the DVD if I can.
I find it hard to understand why you question the market appeal of a Russian language movie. It’s quite obvious it’s not made for the American audience, thank God! But for Russians it’ll probably be very interesting.

Russian made this movie becasue this is reply for A. Wajda’s: “Katyń”
you must see this it’s massacre what they did the Polish people

That does not surprise me! Russia is very “sensitive” in some ways, and retaliating has become standard practice from what I have seen. Like cutting of gas in the Ukraine, or cyberattacks on Estonia. But I do not judge either way. One day Russia will have regained it’s pride and will be above such actions. With regards to the film(s) I accept history cannot be changed, and people have done so much wrong (on both sides). I would much rather just enjoy the films and let the politicians fight. But thanks for your tip (Katyń).

Hahaha!
Really! It`s FANTASY, with pseudo-historical insignificant background.
And this OrlandoBloom-like guy…
