The Girl Who Leapt Through Time
Ryu Seung-Wan, Park Chan-Wook, Bong Joon-Ho.
Few directors have influenced the Chungmuro of the last few years like those three. Park with his vengeance trilogy and 공동경비구역 JSA (Joint Security Area); Bong with his masterpiece 살인의 추억 (Memories of Murder), and Ryu with his ‘intelligent violence’ at the service of drama. The Korean Film Council, in an effort to expand the coverage of Korean directors in English, has published the first three in their ‘Korean Film Directors’ Series’. And where can you buy these babies? Nowhere. Awww… what a shame.
But WAIT. You can’t buy those anywhere simply because you can get them for free. Yep. They’re distributing them online. Pick yours, and good reading:
Park Chan-Wook (PDF File, 31 mb)
Ryu Seung-Wan (PDF File, 24 mb)
Bong Joon-Ho (PDF File, 19 mb)

X, you rock! I’ve been waiting to read those since they announced them on KFC Cinema! My korean connection only imports movies for me here in Brazil, none the books or movie posters. You’ve made my day!

Wow, thanks again X,
You might be interested to know that about an hour ago I picked up my copy of the Kim Ki Duk monograph put out by Dis Voir.

so far I will say this is a lovely production. Can’t talk about content yet. In this series there are volumes on Tsai Ming Liang (on order) from Tw & an older title on Wong Kar Wai. This are probably available on-line if one searches around; I favour my good semi-local bricks & mortar over the big boys
Cheers,
Graeme
