First Teaser For Refn’s True-Crime Picture BRONSON Is Absolutely Brilliant.

Lest any of you have missed it when I’ve made this claim from time to time I hereby make it again:  Nicholas Winding Refn’s Pusher films are quite possibly the very best trilogy of crime films ever made.  And, yes, I think they’re better as a whole than the Godfather movies.  And Refn’s Bleeder aint half bad, either.  So if his fake-crime movies are so strong what do you think is going to happen when he sets his sights on making a true-crime film?  Brilliance, that’s what.

Before going into production on his viking epic Valhalla Rising Refn shot Bronson for UK outfit Vertigo Films.  It’s the true story of notorious British criminal Charles Bronson, imprisoned now for over thirty years, and we’ve been waiting for whatever scraps we could get from it ever since first catching wind.  Well, we’ve got better than scraps now.  The film’s official website has just gone live and included therein is the film’s first teaser.  It’s vintage Refn, everything you’d hope for:  a potent blend of style and grit, nasty violence, pitch black humor, a touch of the surreal and a breast or two.  No, it’s not for the kiddies.

The version streaming on the official site is a mid-grade Flash file but we’ve been passed a higher quality version which we’ve loaded in to the Twitch Player.  Check it out below the break.

That trailer just rocked my world.  Obviously the film to beat in the sub-sub-genre is CHOPPER, and it look likes this one just might…

I knew to expect something sharp coming from Refn. I didn’t expect something this stylized. For some odd reason - probably the music combined with the look - I’m getting _A Clockwork Orange_ institutional vibe.  This should be great.  I dunno if it’ll beat either of Andrew Dominik’s films but looking at trailer Refn’s take on mad Charlie should definitely give it a go.

Looks good.Real good.I also got a Kubrick vibe.I’ll always be thankfull to the Twitch folk for introducing me to the Pusher films.Refn’s films sit right next to my Mann & Scorsese dvd’s.

Hey hey did I just feel some movement in my pants?

God I hope this movie fullfill the promise to the max,too many teasers/trailers have fooled me more than once.

For all those fans of the Pusher fans out there I really do need to recommend picking up the UK DVD of Bleeder, Refn’s second film.  It can be had cheap and it’s really, really good.  Got the most intensely down ending you’ll ever see in a film ...

Bleeder is indeed great (albeit a bit hard to take in the last 10 minutes.  Pretty sick stuff.—But I believe the R2 DVD has a pretty rough transfer.  Is there a better disc the the UK one that has english subs?

  7. Todd Brown 08/23/2008 @ 9:25am

As far as I know it’s the UK or nothing.

  8. Swarez 08/23/2008 @ 12:55pm

Yeah, I have the Danish disc of Bleeder but the fucker doesn’t have Icelandic or English subs, just every other nordic country’s subs. It’s a conspiracy I tell you.

the UK dvd versions weren’t the best video quality. After the initial US dvd run of _Pusher_ via Anchor Bay (and listening to the commentary track) one would’ve expected a domestic version of _bleeder_.

    Wow. Just…wow.

    Can’t wait.

And super proud now that I got Refn to sign my press notes when I sat down with him. Oh and that I have all three PUSHER films.

Todd, you just made me a very happy boy.

Great teaser! And like nitty I have to thank Todd for introducing me to the Pusher series. Only watched the first so far but already hooked. I was blown away.

Finally, a much deserved spin-off about the propeller-baddie from Raiders of the Lost Ark.

The Kubrick vibe seems quite deliberate. This trailer must be some sort of historical milestone because it looks literally impossible that this film is bad.

    hahaha that looks badass.
