To say my expectations for Ole Christian Madsen’s upcoming WWII spy thriller Flame and Citron are running high is a simply enormous understatement. To my mind Madsen is a truly great, shockingly under recognized talent, overlooked in his home country of Denmark - and thus in the rest of the world - I suspect largely because he has never run with the Dogme crowd, who occupy so much critical attention around the globe. But Dogme or no, the man produces some stunning work and I’ve been very excited to see what he could do with a project of this scope from the day it was announced.
Copenhagen, 1944. Denmark is occupied by Nazi Germany. Flame and Citron are two legendary resistance fighters charged with liquidating Danish informers. By order of their commander, they now consent to kill Germans as well. But when Flame is asked to execute his girlfriend Ketty, an enigmatic Stockholm courier, he questions his orders wondering who Ketty really is ? In the struggle for freedom all zones appear grey and it becomes increasingly unclear who is friend and who is foe. Based on true events.
We’ve posted a gallery of very impressive stills for this already and today I found the first teaser. It’s a sixty second spot that plays entirely without dialog and is just hugely impressive. You’ll find it in the Twitch Video Player embedded below the break.

Yes, this looks incredible.
You know I’m bummed that I haven’t been able to see Mads Mikkelsen’s last two films (Exit and Prag). I ordered from the only Danish DVD store I know (DVDCity.dk) a long time ago, and the order never arrived (I’m talking a couple hundred dollars worth of DVDs). Then I found out that it was shipped but sent back, which doesn’t make any sense. I’ve been cautious of ordering from them again…

Very nice. Looks like it covers similar ground to BLACK BOOK but it looks very well done.

Thanks Todd! I’ll definitely do that. Would you recommend that I drop them an email before placing an order? I go on the site and don’t even know where to begin with registering…hehe.

I was in the same situation when I signed up with them, dropped them an email and they responded right away with very detailed instructions. They’re great.
