First Shot Of Mads Mikkelsen in Refn’s VALHALLA RISING!

I wish it were bigger but Danish film site BT have got the first shot of Mads Mikkelsen as the viking One Eye in Nicholas Winding Refn’s viking action epic Valhalla Rising.  Refn, of course, is the genius behind the Pusher films.  And Mikkelsen, of course, you know from Casino Royale, those very same Pusher films and thirty or so other slices of brilliant Danish film.  Most anticipated film of the next year?  This could be it.

For years, One-Eye, a mute warrior of supernatural strength, has been held prisoner by the chieftain Barde. Aided by a boy, Are, he kills his captor and together they escape, beginning a journey into the heart of darkness. On their flight from bounty hunters, One-Eye and Are board a Viking vessel for Norway, but the ship is soon engulfed by an endless fog that first disintegrates as they sight an unknown land. As the new land reveals its secrets and the Vikings meet a ghastly fate, One-Eye discovers his true self.

    This sounds more like a horror movie but I’m definitely there. And it’s always interesting watching actors ply their trade in silence.

    Without a doubt Refn’s _Valhalla Rising_ and _Bronson_ are tops on my must see list. Reteaming w/ Mads can do no wrong.  Definitely excited to see how Refn fares outside his comfort zone: street-level crime.

    Not to forget is the Eastern Promises with Mads Mikkelsen I think. But hell yeah - I look forward to here some more from Valhalla.

    Eastern Promises starred Viggo Mortensen, not Mads. For some reason people confuse the two of them...though personally I think they are nothing alike, except for the fact that they are both Danish.

    Anyway.....I have been waiting for Valhalla Rising for years....I am so excited it is finally being filmed! I just hope we get to see it in the states, and I don’t have to wait for the DVD.

    I’ve been waiting for a decent Scandinavian-made Viking flick forever, and the fact that it’s starring my favourite actor Mads Mikkelsen is - at risk of sounding stupid - like a dream come true.  I think he looks great, and I’ll keep everything crossed that this gets a UK release.  I’ve had to pick up most of my Mads Mikkelsen DVDs during trips back to Scandinavia, and I’m really hoping to get to see this on the big screen.
