First DECENT English-friendly “Irma Vep” release on DVD?

There are plenty enough fans of both Maggie Cheung and Olivier Assayas at this site, and lookee here what I found: their 1996 collaboration “Irma Vep” is about to be re-released on DVD in March for the UK-market.

The reason why this is such a big deal is that so far the only English-friendly versions were all, eh… crap.
Which was irritating because the French had an excellent anamorphic version out, alas without English subs!

Judging by the fact that there are extras on the DVD this time, chances are this release will be truly new and will hopefully use one of the decent transfers that are out there.

Fingers crossed…

Oh, boy! Hopefully the DVD will be stellar so I can pause the movie for an HD freeze frame and just stare at Maggie Cheung in that killer outfit.

Love this movie to death!  It’s a great, great piece of critique cinema, and being-john-malkovich oddness.  I think I have an older French Release, which isn’t the greatest image transfer quality, but the Subs are good.

I see this is British, and am not surprised.  Other than Demonlover and Clean (which are both mostly in English and have ‘hollywood’ stars), Assayas is criminially underreleased in Region 1 (or theatrically for that matter.  I’ve only seen his films at festivals at this point)

Good Find Ard!  Time for an upgrade!

This film reminds me one of the many reasons why i would like to be a film director, Assayas married Maggie Cheung after this, sneaky bastard.
