Well, glory be.  At long last some actual footage from three part anthology project Tokyo - featuring contributions from Michel Gondry, Bong Joon Ho and Leos Carax - have arrived and their looking good.  You’ll find extended scenes from all three segments of the film - Gondry’s Interior Design, Bong’s Shaking Tokyo and Carax’s Merde - below the break!

I laughed when i heard the score to the “Merde” segment, it worked so well.

Yes, any segment featuring music by Akira Ifukube, especially his main theme from GOJIRA, is a good segment.

Tokyo! is one of the best films I’ve seen this year. Merde is simply fascinating from start to finish, luckily as all 3 parts are in this anthology outing.

I hope this is at the BFI! I watched all the segments again and it’s made me want to see it even more!

Oh and can we PLEASE refer to Michel Gondry as Gondy from now on? I like that typo...a lot.

Next time I see him traipsing around in Kim’s or hawking his son’s comic, I’ll be all nonchalant and sidle up next to him and say, “Hey, Gondy. Hey. Hey. Hey, Gondy.” And he’ll turn around ask quizzically in his thick accent, “Uh yes?” And I’ll cross my arms over my chest, nod at him with my nose jutting upwards and say:

    “Sup.”

    Merde est magnifique.
