Dasepo Naughty Girls
Big thanks to regular Twitch reader San Ku Kai for passing a trailer our way for Tamami: The Baby’s Curse, the latest from Japanese cult director Yudai Yamaguchi. Now, Yamaguchi should need no introduction to regular readers of Twitch - we’re big fans - but for those who don’t know who he is, here’s a recap. Yamaguchi first attracted attention as the producer of Ryuhei Kitamura’s splatter flick Versus before striking out on his own to direct bizarre and hysterical films of his own such as Battlefield Baseball and Cromartie High School. With his latest film Yamaguchi returns to a source he has drawn on before: the horror mangas of Kazuo Umezz.
Tamami is the story of a fifteen year old girl reunited with her long lost family. But what should be a happy reunion is spoiled by the family’s hidden secret and before long the whole place is over run with nasty supernatural occurrences, everybody’s screaming and crying and I’m sure the lead character is just wishing she could go back to the orphanage because life here pretty much sucks. Nippon Cinema found a trailer for this on YouTube but San Ku Kai has loaded a higher quality version into the player here and while it looks more restrained than most of Yudai’s work his touch is definitely still there. You can check it out below the break.

Ah Yudai.
Ya gotta love him.
His films are so childish and I love it.
Still haven’t seen Meatball Machine and it kills me [anybody know of any dvd releases?] but this one looks like a departure for him.
Guess we’ll see if he can ‘grow up’...I’m looking forward to it.

TLA put out Meatball Machine on DVD in North America. Not hard to get at all.

An adaptation of Kazuo Umezu’s work is always something to look foward, this looks camp but not bad at all. I still give more credit to Yamaguchi than to Kitamura in terms of camp skills. Battlefield Baseball was dull, but Cromartie.. was a very neat adaptation.
Also, you just gotta love that final shot in the trailer.
