EVIL DEAD 4.  It’s Coming.

Fans have asked for it for years and it’s apparently coming:  Sam Raimi dropped a huge bomb at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend, bringing word that he’s moving ahead with a fourth Evil Dead film, going so far as to say he was hoping to spend some time right about now with his brother Ivan to rough out some story ideas.  Raimi’s a busy guy right now, what with Drag Me To Hell in the works, a potential fourth Spider-Man film - which he has not committed to yet - as well as a rumored job directing a new Jack Ryan spy film, so don’t expect it to be done any time soon, but it’s definitely coming ... here’s Raimi’s exact quote on the matter:

I’d love to make another Evil Dead picture. And actually that’s in the wheelhouse. I’d like to work on it with my brother Ivan [Raimi] when he comes up next week.

I’ll believe it when I see it. This is one story that’s been floating on top forever now, but it’s also the first (?) time Raimi has said that he’s actually working on it as opposed to “Thinking on working on it.”

YAWN… Really? He’s said this MANY, MANY times before. Almost every time him or Bruce do a screening, convention, etc etc. Evil Dead 4 is always a possibility. That thing they’d like to do in the future.  I remember Raimi talking about finishing a Evil Dead 4 script that takes place after the original AOF ending in the future where Ash loses an eye and replaces with a laser ten years ago.

“In the wheelhouse” is tradespeak for, “talked about the film over coffee with other industry folk.” It means nothing. And whatever happened to the Evil Dead remake that Raimi was producing? I read that it had been casted, did it ever actually go into production?

Let’s hope that Take Me To Hell doesn’t blow. I liked Raimi’s Spider Man flicks, even 3. But man, everything coming out of his studio blows chunks hard. Boogeyman, The Grudge...ugh.

The Evil Dead remake is definitely a no-go.  It was never cast, they never even had a director for it.  But I think it was all the talk around that that’s finally gotten them working on a new Evil Dead film, that and Sam is obviously getting tired of doing these huge Hollywood films ...

Anything to keep him away from Spider-Man 4! I personally would prefer another Darkman but nobody would back that up.

Bruce, this better have you in it

What about making a movie version of Evil Dead the musical? Musicals are all the rage now, after Chicago, Hairspray, The Producers and Mama Mia.

I’m all for a new chapter in the Evil Dead story but I wonder where they will take it. If it happens, great. If it doesn’t, fuck it.

Maybe Sam should throw together some of the movies he’s done. Like Darkman and Spider-Man team up to fight the Evil Dead. But it’s a Western. And then Bill Paxton and Billy Bob try to hide a bunch of money, but Kevin Costner kills them with a baseball. It’s a pretty bad ass concept, I know. Sam can use it if he wants. I probably won’t sue.
