When I saw Wilson Yip’s Flashpoint among the names of titles announced for this year’s Midnight Madness lineup at TIFF I nearly fell out of my chair. I don’t think anyone aside from Wilson and Donnie Yen have worked hard enough to revitalize action cinema in Hong Kong in recent years. And after SPL the only direction to go was up… uhm… okay, down a bit for Dragon Tiger Gate, but back up for sure with this film. Yeah.
WuJing.org posted an interview Donnie Yen recently did and he talks about incorporating mixed martial arts into Flashpoint, the new approaches to filming MMA, and the state of action cinema in Hong Kong today, among other things. Head on over and give it a go…
