Does The TIMECRIMES Remake Have A Director? ** UPDATED **

Could be.  George A Romero is currently attending the Neuchatel International Fantastic Film Festival and word is he’s been telling people in press interviews that he is currently hard at work preparing the remake of Nacho Vigalondo’s Timecrimes.  I’m trying to confirm this now ...

UPDATE:
Getting mixed reports on this.  Obviously Romero is saying yes but others who would (or should) know are saying nobody’s attached yet.  Info as we get it.

    NOOOO! NOOOO! NOOOO!

DIARY OF THE DEAD was a BIG letdown. NOT GEORGE! NOOOO!

Let it be Cronenberg, please! He NEEDS a project like this. NOOO! NOT GEORGE!

Would it be too blunt to suggest Tom Tykwer or Shane Carruth for directing an enlish language remake?  I’d love to see Christopher Nolan give it a go if he could stop making those pesky batman films....

I just caught the original, and what a lovely film.  One that cetaintly rewards an audience willing to pay attention!

Both are excellent suggestions....where did you see it, by the way? I’m dying to catch it but will have to wait forever for Magnet Releasing to even get around to writing up a press released for it.

hahaha… Simon, I’m glad you were the first to sound the alarm on Romero.

I caught the original at the 08 Philly film fest. Loved it.

I’m definitely against the proposed remake.

The film’s low key take on time travel immediately made me think of _Primer_. I’d have to agree with Kurt’s suggestion of Shane Carruth. What has he been up to? I actually think all of the directors Kurt noted would be perfect. As would Cronenberg.

Alternate directors: Alejandro Amenábar, Pieter Kuijpers, Nicolas Winding Refn, Johnnie To.

Johnnie To?! HA! That’d be wild.

Carruth hasn’t done anything since PRIMER as far as I know. He’s a one-trick pony, like the guys that did SURVIVE STYLE 5+:  one shot and then out....so far.

Man, I was hoping someone would know about...how you say...extra-legal means or, in Kurt or Todd’s case, had a screener. Doubt that they’d have screeners for this though and besides, I’d prefer to see it on a big screen.

The Survive Style guys have been busy since making that, it’s just that they’ve gone back to commercial stuff.  Wish they’d do another feature ...

Yeah, I do too. I’ve seen some of their music videos on youtube.....good stuff.

Saw it on the big screen at Fantasia a couple days ago.  It’s a lovely film and one of the most audience friendly ones (in ways different from the usual visceral interactions) in a while.  Big screen with Audience is almost mandatory with this one.
