Series Three is due soon (as in the other spin-off, ’The Sarah Jane Adventures‘ (Torchwood‘ misses the mark by a country mile as far as I am concerned), Rose is out and Freema Agyeman is in. Tennant’s the grinning replacement for Eccelston, and the show is firmly popular with many different age groups. Although older posts on the show (and some of the more broad, popular Biritsh Comedy stuff I’ve written about) seem to attract more than their fair share of fan talk (“OMG! Billie Don’t Go! We loe you Billie!” etc etc… *yawn*) I do think this one’s of interest because it’s another reasonably quick exit for a Doctor; see the comments (already) and you’ll understand what i mean - the post clearly says this is a rumor too!

Still, there’s a precedent set by Eccleston’s exit, by the typecasting that Doctors of old found hard to escape, and by a shift in the general tone of the production since the comeback. Although both the names mentioned as being in discussion with the BBC (and yes, it’s still a rumor at this stage, no solid confirmation - though it’s making the press this morning) are both solid actors, I would easily plump for Carlyle because I think he’s one of the best around and would give a more masculine, intense variation on the character.

Morrissey has been popular in the BBCs show ’Blackpool‘ and is closer to the tone of the show if you attempt to sense what he is like from other work you might have seen. Either way, they’re not the most obvious of names to throw-up if you’re going to simply pull a story like this out of your imagination, so let’s hope for more shows that match the quality of many of what we’ve so far seen - the Xmas special was ”okay”, nothing more, nothing less, but the series continues to be worth watching at least. Oh, and a Box Set of Series Two will be available soon on R1 USA DVD if you check the DVD Release Calendar.

    This is completely FALSE!

    The BBC officially denied this.

    You Retards.

I sure hope Tennat doesn’t leave this season… First new season, had a new dr who and a new companion… 2nd had a new doctor, and now the third is going to have a new companion, I would like at least one whole season where they didn’t have to spend time haaving the characters learn about each other…

Why are you bothering to comment on a SUN article? it’s nothing but rumour and speculation.

There is no 4th series commissioned yet. The BBC doesn’t renew the show until after the 3rd series is underway and the ratings are in.

    And it’s “precedent”, not “president”.

I really don’t like Tennant as the Doctor. Rose Tyler was really annoying also. They need to devote more energy to the actual stories and less on developing the side-kicks.

Wow, good to see that the sci-fi fanboys on that side of the Atlantic are as bad as the ones over here in America.

Love the new shows. It would be great to see Ten do a Baker’s run. “To make a Ten a Baker’s dozen” is a fan’s dream. The writing team is right on- the story lies in the characters around the DOCTOR to keep mortals interested.

Hmm, make a spectacle about leaving the role of the Doctor, and then say it’s to avoid being associated with that role for the rest of your career. Seems self-fulfilling to me.
