Say it with me. Japanese. Death. Metal. Mmmmmmmm. That’s rich metal goodness right there folks.

Filming began last Saturday, a couple weeks later than expected as was reported in our first posting about this project; the live adaptation of the manga series Detroit Metal City. A couple days ago Sankei Sports published promotional pictures [left] of star Matsuyama Kenichi as both Soichi Negishi and his alter-ego, Detroit Metal City member, Johannes Krauser II. Nice.

Other casting was also announced. Akiyama Ryuji, from a comedy trio called Robert, will portray the drummer Camus, Hosoda Yoshihiko is playing the bassist Jagi and Matsuyuki Yasuko plays the domineering manager of the band’s label.

Toho Studios is aiming for a summer release.

Those pictures seriously crack me up.
Hard to believe this is ‘K’ from the Death note movies! cheese

But what is Studio 4C’s involvement in this? All the animation links in the Detroit Metal City website point to them…

I watched a tv series he was in last year (Sexy Voice and Robo) and in that he plays an otaku character really well....Maybe he will play this character a similar way.

OH and Shinya Tsukamoto is in Sexy Voice and Robo as well.

Ken’ichi was awesome in Sexy Voice and Robo. He was the only reason I saw that drama to the end. His part in Death Note is legendary!!!!

But Ardvark, He was “L” in Death Note. I don’t believe there was a character named “K”. xD

    Uhm… yes, I meant “L”, k?
