Denmark Goes Noir With WHAT NO ONE KNOWS

For a few months now people in the know have been telling me to keep an eye out for What No One Knows, the new noir thriller from hugely acclaimed Danish film maker Soren Kragh-Jacobsen. Now, Jacobsen is best known on these shores as one of the co-founders of the Dogme 95 movement but obviously his interests range a wee bit farther than that.
When Thomas’ sister dies in an accident, he discovers that her death may be connected to their deceased father’s work in military intelligence. As Thomas embarks on an investigation he soon finds himself and his family under surveillance by an unknown group of people.
Playing the lead role in this is Anders Berthelsen, who is evidently becoming Denmark’s leading man of choice when it comes to noir oriented films - he’s also the lead in Ole Bornedal’s Just Another Love Story - and it’s not hard to see why. Though physically a little softer than the type normally associated with these sorts of films he’s got this sort of vague lost quality to him that makes him perfectly cast as the man caught up in forces outside of his control.
