Once Upon a Time in the West
Oh, sweet mother ... here’s a little something I would’ve missed entirely if not for something Crazybee posted over at the KFC Forums (and yes, bee, I did pilfer your screen capture) ... tucked away on disc two of Media Blaster’s Sky High DVD is a five minute promo reel for something called Death Trance. And what is Death Trance? A new film starring Tak Sakaguchi of Versus and Battlefield Baseball fame directed by the action director from Versus. And it looks INCREDIBLE. Now, this thing isn’t available online anywhere yet, so I’ve opted to rip it from the DVD, post it here, and hope that Media Blasters appreciate the free publicity rather than getting angry and having me take it down.
A couple notes on the video file ... yeah, the image is small and a little bit grainy. It’s really, really long so I had to scale it down a bit to (hopefully) avoid killing my bandwidth before my webhost gets my note asking them to up my limit. And, for some reason the ripper that I used seems to have slightly compressed the image in the horizontal, so the aspect ratio isn’t quite right. Basically if something seems wrong with the file blame it on me. All the good stuff is pure Tak ...
*** UPDATE ***
Okay, this thing ate better than two gigs of bandwidth over four hours in the middle of the night, the quietest traffic time here, and that’s just not sustainable on our server so I’ve pulled it down. Anybody have access to a bit-torrent tracker they’d like to share?

that footage is awesome. it looks like it was shot in the same forest as ‘versus.’ apart from tak beating the crap out of ninjas who wield sword/machine gun hybrids, any idea what this movie’s about?

What more do you need?
crazybee 04/28/2005 @ 9:05am
It’s about Tak’s character dragging that crate across the globe in order to search for all of the keys that will open it. Inside is some spirit that he must defeat in order to gain something. Sorry if I’m being vague, but there isn’t much info out there. I’ve got the first book of the manga (based ON the movie, not the other way around) coming to me, so I should have that next week. If you google the manga, you should find the synopsis. I’m sorry, I’m just being kinda lazy. Hehe…
And Todd, pilfer away. I’m happy to get people hyped for this one. It looks amazing!

has anyone else been thinking today about the possibility this is a kitamura movie… perhaps ‘versus 2’ which its subtitle hiding its real origins / director? or am i way off the mark?
crazybee 04/28/2005 @ 10:29am
Yeah, you’re a little bit off, but not too far. It’s a movie that’s being co-produced by Media Blasters, and is directed by Versus’ action director, Yuji Shimomura. I’m almost positive that it has the same cinematographer as well, but that’s just going on the way it looks and the camera work.

Thats a great promo I was just getting ready to post that news on my site you beat me to it LOL...The film looks awesome m/

According to the MEdia Blasters guys this isn’t really a trailer ... he doesn’t think they’ve even started principal photography yet. This was a promo reel shot as test footage to show potential investors ... pretty damn impressive for a test ...

Not sure how many downloads YouSendIt limits things to, but I just posted the Death Trance promo here for those who want a crack at it ... link’s only good for seven days ...
evergreen 04/28/2005 @ 9:29pm
Thanks but it seems to cut off at around 90%. You can’t complete the download.
crazybee 04/29/2005 @ 8:12am
Well then, that just sucks. Like they need a whole lot of money to make it anyway. I’m sure they’ve started to make it by now. Who wouldn’t want to invest in that!?

Media Blasters has announced that it is co-producing DEATH TRANCE with Japan’s Media Suits, Inc. The film is the first in a deal to co-produce three features, budgeted at $3-$5 million, over the next five years. DEATH TRANCE is a supernatural samurai adventure to be directed by Yuji Shimomura, the action choreographer on Ryuhei Kitamura’s VERSUS and ALIVE (both out Stateside on Media Blasters DVDs) as well as BATTLEFIELD BASEBALL (coming to US DVD soon from Subversive Cinema). Tak Sakaguchi, from VERSUS, BATTLEFIELD and Kitamura’s upcoming GODZILLA: FINAL WARS will star, and executive producer Yoshinori Chiba also has a long list of genre credits, including Keita Amamiya’s ZEIRAM, the EKO EKO AZARAK series and Takashi Miike’s FUDOH. The release of DEATH TRANCE will be accompanied by a manga book series that will also be distributed Stateside by Media Blasters.

Hello! I’m new here. I’m a Japanese living in the States.
It seems I’m too late to see the link of the Death Trace promo.. Can someone help me about that?
Anyway, I’m glad that someone talk about Tak here! The movie is shooting now in Japan and will finish it end of May! Isn’t it great? And I heared that the promo was taken in the same woods of VERSUS as somebody pointed out.

Are you planning to upload the video again? I’d really like to see it. By the way, YouSendIt’s download limit is 25 times. Rapidshare’s is 30 days unlimited, if you’d rather try that (http://rapidshare.de).
Todd 05/12/2005 @ 11:07am
File’s too big for Rapidshare ... they cap things at 30 meg, and the file’s 38 ...
jay 05/13/2005 @ 12:07am
Oh, bugger! I didn’t realise it was such a big file. Are you going to upload it again, though?
jay 05/14/2005 @ 8:42pm
OK, I’ve been looking around, and I found something else, http://www.streamload.com. You have to pay for unlimited storage, but there’s a free plan where you can store 10gb. Just click on the pricing link up the top. I haven’t had a proper look at the free plan, so there’s probably a catch with it like Rapidshare.

Hey! Here are some images from the teaser trailer.

The page will be deleted after 7days.

Great, thanks for those! Does this mean you have the video? Yes, I REALLY want to see it!
