I’m surprised that no one has talked about this yet, especially since Dark City has quite a large cult following. Well I was listening to Fangoria Radio and on there was an interview with writer/producer/director David Goyer about his latest film Invisible. In the interview he mentions that he had just been with Dark City’s director Alex Proyas working on a brand spanking new Director’s cut of Dark City, complete with beefed up special effects and a new and improved sound mix. Sounds pretty sweet to me. No word on when the disc will be released though.

Fangoria Radio is a pretty cool station by the way if you are a horror fan. Dee Snider of Twisted Sister fame and B-Movie actress Debbie Rochon are co hosts and talk to horror legends and celebreties and is an all around good times. Check it out.

Awesome, I watched this again last week and was wondering whatever happened to the special edition Proyas promised years ago. Hopefully it will drop the intro narration that lets the audience in too early on the alien presence.

Not sure how I feel about this.  This is a movie that I really like (And just bought on DVD finally a couple weeks ago), but I’m a little concerned that it will end up being like the Donnie Darko DC, which I am not a fan of.  Oh well, I’m sure I’ll give it a watch…

Yes, but much like the DONNIE DARKO DC, I’ll buy it whether I like it or not (in DD’s case, I didn’t, either)...if for no other reason than to compare and contrast.

    Can’t wait!

This is potentially, but not necessarily, great news.

I can’t see much about Dark City that could be improved by a revisiting, least of all the special effects (which, even as they age, have a flavour quite unique to this film). Most fans of the film have a beef with the opening narration, and though I count myself among them, its execution has a charm of its own.

Yeah I’m not a fan of the opening narration either. And if I remember correctly it was added by request of the producers, so hopefully it will be removed by Proyas this time.

When asked in a Q&A what he thought of the opening narration, Proyas apparently (read this years ago on AICN) said: “Oh, yes, I was thrilled to have the whole surprise spoiled to the audience in the first 30 seconds”.
    He hates the narration.

only one wish for the director’s cut: DROP OUT (AT LEAST) HALF OF THAT TREVOR JONES SOUNDTRACK

the soundtrack completely overshadows the images/story….and it’s a very poor soundtrack at that as well

that’s the only thing that irritates me everytime
