Martyrs
Good news for kaiju fans! One of the most unique of all the classic giant monster films, the Daimajin trilogy of films revolve around a giant stone statue that awakens when angered by injustice and pounds evil doers into stony submission. These 1960’s productions are widely considered amongst the very finest of all kaiju pictures and have been out of print for a few years now. But no more!
Back in 2006 it was announced that Kadokawa had hired Takashi Miike to make (remake?) a new Daimajin picture and while things have been quiet on that front for a while now I’ve heard nothing to suggest that Miike has dropped the project and in a move that looks to me like preparation for the new picture’s arrival all three original films are being reissued on DVD in Japan, all of them with English subtitles. So, if you missed out on these when ADV released them in North America you have another chance now ... all three release October 26th.

I was fortunate enough to have purchased the set the first time around and must urge fans of the supernatural and surreal to pick these films up. They really are exceptional…

These are great films. Any word on extras on the new discs and would they also be English subbed?

I have these on tape that I got a few years ago. They are all good and all and look fantastic FX vise but in reality all the films are exactly the same in terms of plot. Evil ruler walks over the poor and defendless. The defendless call upon Daimajin who swiftly kicks ass.
But fun none the less.
