Rescue Dawn
Why yes, that is a shot from Wisit Sasanatieng’s Citizen Dog to the left, there. Thanks for noticing. Here’s why.
On a whim just now I took a quick spin by the Film Factory Thailand website. Now, Film Factory is the commercial production company Sasanatieng runs and its roster also boasts Last Life in the Universe director Pen-Ek Ratanaruang. Now, last time I hit the site it was pretty much just a holder page but they’ve done a good bit of updating. Oh, yes. The site now includes complete demo reel pages for eachof the principal directors including a host of Thai tv spots by both Sasanatieng and Ratanaruang. And these things are just flat out brilliant. Thought Sasanatieng’s technicolored fancies were just an affectation he put on for his features? Nope! They’re an affectation he wears all the time, and it’s glorious! Check out the Wrangler Jeans ad with the star of Tears of the Black Tiger ...
And, incidentally, you can check out a new review of Citizen Dog from the San Francisco Asian American Film Festival here. See? I’m not the only one smitten.

WOW!! What a TREAT!! Isn’t that Granny Gekko in that first Wrangler piece? What a toothless smile on that woman!! I can’t believe I’m getting to see so much Wisit in one week!! And to have my review attached by mention is a great compliment. Thanks, Todd!

little side note: Citizen Dog is releasing in Korea next week, so Korean DVD in a couple of months is a possibility.

Thanks to movies like Citizen Dog, Bangkok Loco, Tears of the Black Tiger, Rahtree: Flower of the Night and a few others I am now constantly on full alert for anything coming from Thailand when it involves movies. So thanks for pointing this stuff out

The Wrangler commercial, plus a trailer for Bangkok Dangerous, were attached to the print of Tears of the Black Tiger that was shown at the Bangkok International Film Festival. It was the first time I’d seen the Wrangler ad. What a blast. Now I can watch it over and over. Cool. I’d also seen Wisit’s MK ad many times. Clever as heck.
If there is a Korean DVD of Citizen Dog, I wonder if it’ll have English subs?

Wisit’s new film announced on variety. its a Revenge pic.
Cult Thai helmer Wisit Sasanatieng will take his color-saturated view of life to Singapore, directing “Armful,” a stylized tragicomedy set up at One Ton Cinema. Story is a revenge tale about a failed paper merchant who loses his arm.
