Could This Be A Positive Outcome Of The Writer’s Strike?  Jean Pierre Jeunet Returning To France ...

Let’s be honest.  As much as I love Jean-Pierre Jeunet his only previous English-language directing credit - that’d be the fourth Alien film - is kind of a mess.  Well, not even kind of.  It’s enough of a mess that I often tell people I like to pretend it never happened when discussing Jeunet’s films.  And so, I’m not entirely torn up over the news that Jeunet’s upcoming sophomore English language title, an adaptation of The Life of Pi has been put on hold.  And, frankly, I’m flat out ecstatic at news that Jeunet is returning to France where he will be reunited with Amelie co-star Jamel Debbouze for big budget - by French standards - comedy Micmacs à tire-larigot (Playing Games To Your Heart’s Content).  Details are sparse so far but the film rolls in April 2008 for a 2009 release.

I don’t know. I like Alien Resurection when I realized that it’s not a horror film but a comic book movie. And also because of Ron Perlman and Michael Wincott who I think is one of cinema’s under used bad asses. When I make my zombie western Death Valley he’s going to be the lead, even wrote the part for the man.

Yeah, I concur. I have always enjoyed the film immensely. It is indeed a mess, but there are enough good things, even if they are thrown in incoherently and at odds to eachother, that it more than balances out.

But to the matter at hand. Yay! As much as I’m interested to see how he would handle Pi, I rather like when he sets out to just make a small lighthearted film to take the stress off. Last time he did that we got Amelie.
Any word if it’s his own material, or is he working from another source?
