My Life to Live (Vivre sa Vie)
The latest effort from master Japanese animator Masaaki Yuasa of Mind Game and Kemonozume fame has just hit the airwaves in his native land. Titled Kaiba the series is described as a science fiction romance and, as has been the pattern, it looks noting at all like Yuasa’s previous work beyond the simple fact that it looks brilliant. The complete opening sequence of the series has arrived online and can be found beneath the break for your viewing pleasure.

Looks interesting I guess. I hope he goes back to his original style afterwards though.

Looks good; not so far removed from the director’s previously displayed styles as everyone seems convinced it is. The credits are a mellow, English-language cousin of KEMONOZUME’s opening, there’s a strong similarity to MINDGAME’s constantly transforming “God” in much of this footage, and the graphical style is very similar to the crucial time-travel cartoon-within-a-cartoon of MINDGAME.

The first episode was absolutely amazing, possibly the best work he’s done. I read somewhere that this is closer to the style he used before Mind Game, and may be his actual style. Can’t verify that personally…

Where did you see it, Andrew? Is there a fansub out there?

Just raws for now, but its worth the view. One thing that really struck me is how fast I got into the story and how well the music played along. I’m really looking forward to more Kaiba…

So far I’ve only seen one group who’ve even announced their intention to do a fansub.
