Came across this in Movies.com. Clive Owen has signed on to star in an adaptation of a P. D. James novel about a futuristic society in which the men are sterile. Owen plays a man who protects the first pregnant woman in 20 years.

In the near future, all human males are sterile and England has fallen into anarchic chaos. The arrival of warden Xan Lyppiatt, who puts the country under martial law, changes that, until the unexpected pregnancy of a woman (with the first child in 27 years) inspires a group of revolutionaries. The film will be helmed by Alfonso Cuarón, director of Y tu mamá también and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. His films look great to begin with and he is sharing some of the writing responsibilities for the movie. Should be good. We’ll keep an eye on this one for you.

This book rules! I can’t wait to see it. Just so you know, while in the book it’s been something like 30 years since a child has been born, something I read about the movie said it’s been 18. Not that it makes that big a difference.

It’s no doubt so they can actually have people under 30 in the movie. smile

Can’t have a movie without pretty young things.

Cuaron?  Yawn.  I am not impressed.  Though I haven’t seen Harry Potter yet.

What’s your problem with Cuaron? Sure, Y Tu Mama was overhyped, but I thought the only area it was failing in was plot. And how interesting that the guy who directed children so well in Secret Garden and Harry Potter is now doing a film with no children.

Really, you should check out HP3. It’s really good.

Yeah, I thought Y Tu Mama (and Amores Perros) was overhyped.  And I’ll probably check out Harry Potter when it comes out on HBO.

Cuaron did A Little Princess smile Agnieszka Holland did A Secret Garden, which was amazing.

Hmmm, looks like Cuaron did Great Expecatations, too, a movie I loved.

    And Amores Perros was Innurito,
    not Cuaron. I fucking LOVED
    Amores Perros, and 21 Grams,
and his short in September 11.

I wasn’t into the whole Mexican invasion thing.  I thought the Crimes of Padre Amaro was boring.  But I was a bit more into the Spanish directors of that moment, like Alejandro Amenabar, but not much.  I didn’t think much of Tesis.  I liked Vanilla Sky though.  I’ve been looking for Nobody Knows Anydoby for awhile now.
