There’s a fight clip from Kenta Fukasaku’s Yo-Yo Girl Cop (Sukeban Deka: kôdo nêmu = Asamiya Saki - or “Sukeban Deka: code name = Asamiya Saki”, if you prefer back-transliterations) on the Google Video subsite of Google Inc.. Also, the official website for the movie has been overhauled - the HTML site has been replaced with a Flash one.
The screenplay for Yo-Yo Girl Cop was written by Shôichi Maruyama, based on the manga series Sukeban Deka by Shinji Wada. The movie stars Aya Matsuura as Saki Asamiya IV, a.k.a. Sukeban Deka IV. It co-stars Rika Ishikawa, Erika Miyoshi, Yui Okada, Yuki Saitô, Hiroyuki Nagato, Shunsuke Kubozuka (Kuboduka Shunsuke), and Riki Takeuchi.
Here’s a synopsis for Yo-Yo Girl Cop from Sanspo.com via Don Brown: “A police detective working undercover at private school Seisen Gakuen is blown to pieces on the streets of Shibuya. The cop had been investigating students frequenting a popular underground website named ‘Enola Gay’, where information on everything from bullying to bomb-making is exchanged. One week earlier, a strange counter on the website began ticking down to some unmentioned event.... Meanwhile, a young girl only known as ‘K’ is brought back to Japan from New York against her will, and is assigned the codename ‘Asamiya Saki’ by the National Police Agency. Her mission: infiltrate Seisen Gakuen....”
Toei Company Ltd. (Tôei K.K.) is scheduled to release Yo-Yo Girl Cop theatrically in Japan on September 30th.

My interest is piqued but I’m not completely sold. I haven’t seen any other incarnation of this series (I know theres a movie from the 80’s and probably a gajillion anime and manga spin offs)but the main thing that bugs me is how much action can you get out of a yo-yo? In creative hands PLENTY! but this clip is pretty much what you’d expect if yo-yo’s fought each other. Nothing more, nothing less. I’ll stay tuned, but I won’t go out of my way to get my hands on the film until better stuff comes along.

I’m actually really surprised by how much I like that ... Kenta’s finally gone and developed a much needed sense of humor.

I’m impressed! I thought Matsuura Aya was too girlie to be Asamiya Saki/Sukeban Deka but she definitely looks pretty good here. I wonder if Fukusaku Kenta has lifted a page from the “Charlie’s Angels:Full Throttle” movie and made Ishikawa Rika’s character a “fallen” former Sukeban Deka agent. That would explain why she has a battle “Yo-Yo” like Saki. This is a bit of a spoiler but fans of the 80’s TV show will definitely rejoice at seeing one of the original Sukeban Deka girls make a comeback in the movie (which one I won’t say but if you’ve seen the “Making of...” footage at YouTube you probably already know who it is). I’m definitely eagerly awaiting this release in Japan.
