It has been known for a while that after the failure of Jersy Girl, Kevin Smith is retreating back to what he knows.  Shooting doesn’t begin until at lest September, according to the View Askew Website, where there is a larger version of the one-sheet posted.

Regardless of Kevin’s less-than-ambitious film-career choice, I look forward to seeing what Dante and Randal have to say 12 years (and a New Star Wars Trilogy) later.

Why has kevin Smith put hiself in the forefront of the poster? whats that all about?

  3. jason 05/18/2005 @ 10:47pm

because he is trying to hold on to what he once had, kinda like george lucas.

Whoa guys and gals…Show the man a little love.  Clerks was made with Bubble gum and string.  And it is pretty darn funny.  Mallrats has its strong points and Chasing Amy is gold.  Dogma is challanging, and Jay & Silent Bob at least plays with Narrative and pokes fun at this roots.  I haven’t seen Jersy Girl, but judging from the trailer it is more or less unforgivable…(But I shouldn’t say anything till i’ve actually seen it (which won’t be any time soon I’m afraid).

But to end this ramble (wrangle?), I will make the theatrical Trip for Clerks 2, even if I wish Kevin Smith was working on a more ambitious project.

Well, at least he’s back in familiar, cozy territory. To be blunt, he had about as much business making a film like JERSEY GIRL as Robert Altman did making POPEYE.

Excitement, Adventure, a Director craves not these things

Kevin Smith peaked with CHASING AMY, a film that I remember enjoying at the time but knowing what I know now, would be afraid to revisit. At the time it looked like he was moving in an interesting direction, but given what has followed, I really can’t claim to hold any hope or interest for his future movies. We can forgive CLERKS shortcomings because of its zero budget, but I really get the feeling that for about 99% of his career, Smith has just been taking the piss.

I like all of Smiths movies, aside from Jersey Girl and I loves me some Jason Mews, which is why I like Jay and Silent Bob strike back.

I think you are all being very close minded! Kevin Smith has made some very fine movies , Even Jersey Girl! And if you think you can do better, friggin’ go for it!!!

I wasn’t happy with Chasing Amy, didn’t see Jersey Girl, but I am totally looking forward to this one. Kevin Smith is not as lost as George Lucas - give him a chance.

    Salsa shark!

Oh, yeah, but I agree that Passion of the Clerks is kind of lame.

I like Smith and his movies.  I haven’t seen Jersey Girl, but it didn’t look bad at all.

“What do yo mean there’s no ice! You mean I gotta drink this coffee hot.” Classic brilliance at its best.

If any of you folks who missed “Jersey Girl” care, you can read my fair and balanced review
    here.
I worte it before the movie came out, and still stand by it, for what it’s worth.
