Rogue Pictures Presents THE UNBORN Now Playing

Though I’ve not had the chance to see it myself yet Teng Huatao’s The Matrimony has a stellar cast anchored by Leon Lai and Fan Bingbing and one gorgeous trailer. It’s also coming to DVD in less than a week, with Englihs subtitles included. It’s not a straight up horror picture—of which VERY few are produced in mainland China—but rather a horror-romance hybrid that’s gotten generally good press wherever it’s been seen. IF anyone out there caught this when it played at Fantasia I’d love to hear from you ... but in the meantime:

Hi Todd,
I caught this at Fantasia. It’s good. Gorgeously shot with great performances from Fan Bingbing and Renee Liu. It’s more of a Victorian era-esque ghost story than a straight out horror film and the end leaves a lot of wiggle room regarding the supernatural elements. I’ve always wondered why people still make the claim that supernatural elements are banned from mainland films. Both the Twins Effect 2 and The Promise were released wide in the PRC and contain very little else other than supernatural elements. I suspect the guidelines in that dept are as flexible as anything else is in the PRC.
