Rogue Pictures Presents THE UNBORN Now Playing

The latest Haneke, just opened this weekend here in the UK, already seems to be set for a fairly quick DVD appearance - the first of this film that I’ve seen mentioned anywhere - and it’s here in the UK again, so when the Amazon.co.uk listing turns up it will be there linked in the DVD Release Calendar you can access on the right hand side of the site. All the usual TV shows and magazines are giving this movie decent reviews, long and involving it seems to be, a challenge too, but well worth while if you like layered and deep narratives, thrillers and so on. Long been a fan of Auteuil, not so keen on Binoche, like my films odd and twisted, so this one’s straight on my personal list of wants. Won Haneke the Best Director award at Cannes 2005; the sort of film and Director that splits people so well, so people should either love or hate this one.
Here’s the synopsis that seems to be appearing everywhere, “Georges (Daniel Auteuil), a television talk show host, and his wife Anne (Binoche), are living the perfect life of modern comfort and security. One day their idyll is disrupted in the form of a mysterious videotape that appears on their doorstep. On it they are being filmed by a hidden camera from across the street with no clues as to who shot it, or why. As more tapes arrive containing images that are disturbingly intimate and increasingly personal, Georges launches into an investigation of his own as to who is behind this. As he does so, secrets from his past are revealed, and the walls of security he and Anne have built around themselves begin to crumble.”
