Oooh ... here’s a happy surprise. Steve Buscemi’s Lonesome Jim was one of my favorite films at last year’s Philadelphia Film Festival and despite the film being praised pretty much everywhere it has played they’re only just getting around to giving it a limited theatrical release in the US later this month. But in a strange turn of events, you don’t have to wait that long to see it if you don’t want to because it has just released on DVD in Thailand. Yep ... a US film got a theatrical run and DVD release in Thailand before even hitting theaters here. Go figure.

    Wow!

Is ethaicd.com a reliable website? Never heard of them before… Wanna see this movie as fast as possible.

Yeah, I buy from Ethai all the time with no problems. All legit releases and good service. Thai disc quality can be uneven but they’re generally pretty good and you can’t go too far wrong with a disc under ten bucks, shipping included ...

I caught Lonesome Jim in its limited theater release here. It played one place, and I took great pains to tell anyone I talked to to go and see it.

It looked like a DVD that was projected on the big screen, so it was pretty grainy, but that kind of helped it in my eyes, since I knew it was an indie effort. It really reminded me of Mystery Train. Buscemi learned from the master.

I think we’re going to see more of this kind of thing - Thailand or other countries being used as a test audience of sorts - to drum up buzz about films.
