Rogue Pictures Presents THE UNBORN Now Playing

The man has been dead for 33 years but he still holds legendary status in the martial arts community. Now, Bruce Lee’s family wants to ensure that he remains a legend by making a film that will dismiss any rumors about him since his death.
Brothers Robert and Peter and sisters Phoebe and Agnes have decided to record a film to show the other side of Bruce, how he was growing up, his secrets and his philosophy from the never-seen perspective of his brothers and sisters. The film will be shot next year by JA Media in co-operation with brothers Robert and Peter and sisters Phoebe and Agnes, and is scheduled to air on the 35th anniversary of Bruce Lee’s death in 2008. JA Media movie producer Stephen Shin Kei-yin said they would trawl the world to find the right actor to portray Lee.
It would be interesting to see things from their perspective. Of course there were reports once that WKW and Tony Leung were talking about a Bruce Lee project as well. Talking is okay but we want to see results. So where should JA Media look? Who do you think would fit the role of Bruce Lee perfectly? Suggestions?

I think Tony Ja with his action skills will fit for the role of Bruce Lee.

Tony Yaa??? The man looks nothing like him and doesn’t do kung fu. Stephen Chow would be the obvious choice I would think. The man idolises him and even looks similar.
If not him then the guy who played the goal keeper in Shaolin soccer.

I wonder if he got to keep the jumpsuit after filming was done?

Well, if the movie is going to show the young Bruce they should look forward to some young and talented actor. Unfortunately I wouldn’t know a young actor to do it, but to make an all grown up Bruce they should call Louis Fan or Danny Chan (the guy who played him in Shaolin Soccer).

While not a fan of Bruce Lee movies, some of which are pretty bad IMO, I do have respect for his MA skills. Would be interesting to see a different side of him in a movie.

No Tony Ja! He’s great, but he’s Thai and looks and fights nothing like Bruce Lee. On the other hand the Japanese character with the afro from Ong Bak that had a fight scene with Tony Ja. Now that could work. Get rid of the afro of course and give him some Lee skills….....

Stephen Chow is the obvious choice. Stepehn Chow loves Bruce Lee. He grew up as a kid learning kung fu watching bruce lee when his parents could not afford lessons for him. Every since movie stephen chow has been in has some type of bruce lee reference. He’s the GUY. Tony Jaa is a great fighter… But not a good kung fu (wing chun) person. Stephen grew up practicing wing chun.

The WKW/Tony Leung project wasn’t really about Lee, it was about Yip Man. Last I heard they still plan to do it, it’s just on the backburner.

Stephen Chow hasn’t done any serious acting in ages. He’s more of a comedic actor. He doesn’t looks like Bruce Lee at all, except for the fact that he’s skinny.
The guy who looks like Bruce Lee in Shaolin Soccer was actually a dancer in real life. Stephen Chow just thought that he looks like Bruce Lee, so he added the character into the story, during production. He’s not really a trained actor; just a surprisingly capable non-actor.
Donnie Yen… well what can I say? He looks nothing like Bruce Lee, so I don’t really like the choice so much. That stated, he does a kick-ass impression of the martial arts icon.

Stephen Chow is an obvious choice, yes. But, I agree with going along with an unknown. The only missing element in the current castin choices for Bruce Lee is that the actor playing him not just embody his physical presence, but more importantly, his charisma. I like Stephen Chow, he has potential to pull it off. But, when you watch any Bruce Lee movie, the camera is focused mainly on him and it doesn’t matter what he does. He could stand there and it’d make you FEEL like…WOW!! Like watching Brando on screen too. He could stand there, sit there, do something silly, but you can never take your eyes off him. If they can’t find anyone to fit that charisma, they should scrap the idea. We don’t need another Dragon.

I have seen the great Kung Fu movie of Fist of Fury in TV series 1995 with the main cast and action directed by Donnie Yen, Why don’t you think about him again . He has been appearing in many movies and his skill of fightings look very similar to Bruce lee New Big Boss, Kill Zone, Dragon Tiger Gate and so on .............. I think Donnie is a great job in the movie…......

100% must be Donny Yen. Without Jet Li and Jactkie chan I don’t think somebody else will be qualify to replace bruce Lee. You have already seen Donnie Yen the movie “The Fist and the Fury” right! it just the best actor ever that could match to Bruce. I don’t care whatever you say I will pick Donny Yen anyways!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
His Engish just perfect to be Bruce!!!!!!!!!!!
I think he’s #1 kicking ass in the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
paochoua 11/10/2006 @ 11:43pm
