Holy sweet mother ...

As anyone who has seen Dead Man’s Shoes or My Summer of Love will tell you Paddy Considine is an absolute monster of an actor, a simply enormous talent waiting to be discovered by the world at large. And whoever had the brilliant idea to cast him alongside Gary Oldman in the upcoming Spanish-produced thriller The Backwoods is an absolute genius. These two, on paper at least, are as good a combination as anyone could ever hope for.

Well, the first trailer has turned up online and the combination looks every bit as good in real life. Oh, my. This just jumped right up to the top of my ‘to watch for’ list for 2006 ... here’s the synopsis from the production company’s website:

“Summer 1978: an English couple Lucy and Norman are going through a difficult patch in their relationship, and so decide to spend the summer in the house that their friends Paul and his wife Isabel have bought in the north of Spain. Hidden away in the middle of a forest, and very much off the beaten track, the house seems ideal for some peaceful holidays. But this peace and tranquillity is abruptly shattered when they discover a girl with horribly deformed hands locked away in a cabin in the woods.

Filthy dirty and unable to talk, the girl is obviously tremendously frightened of something, and so the couple decide to take her to the police.

But their attempts to help the girl are continually hampered by the denseness of the forest itself, as well as by a group of local villagers who seem determined to keep the girl in these atrocious conditions.”

And here’s the trailer. Just stunning stuff.

Huge thanks to Fred for the pointer on this ... I was checking the Filmax website just last week and it wasn’t there yet ...

    Hi Todd,

I notice that this film leading by Gary Oldman has a similar argument, nearly equal, as the “Jennifer” episode from Masters of Horror directed by Dario Argento. This episode is based upon a short story created by Bruce Jones and Bernie Wrightson published by Warren.

The trailer link’s been down since I first heard of this movie 2-3 weeks ago - any ideas when it will be up so we can all check it out?
