My inner adolescent is drooling, but my inner nerd says: “A lightsaber which bends?!?”.

Why is it most japanese trailers feature some j-pop song that never comes close to matching what’s the trailer is about? Ugh. The movie looks more than a little over the top and ridiculous so it will probably be worth a look on dvd:)

Phew… you know, from the title alone, every fibre of being should be totally gunning for this movie. But, between the teaser, the music I just heard, and cheese, I’m just not.

Unfortunately that looks horribly cheap and poorly made.

I’m getting really sick of computerized blood effects. Didn’t like it in Zatoichi or Kiltro. So I really hope this isn’t becoming a cost cutting trend.

acts268 I was about to ask something similar. Does every Japanese action movie trailer need to have a poppy rock song in the background? It’s cool once or twice, but it gets old fast.

hahaha! Nice! The CG gore looks hilariously awesome! I love the emotional strings at the end of the trailer. Good times. Hopefully it will have some practical gore effects too.

I concur with Al’s initial post. Gorgeous sword-toting ladies in bikinis killing zombies. Sounds pretty good to me.

Looks like shit, but the ladies are hot.
Caterpillar 04/01/2008 @ 8:24am
The fact is, computer generated gore is now much cheaper and much less time-consuming to create than doing practical effects on set. Your shooting schedule inevitably gets dragged out if you routinely spend half a day rigging tubes of blood and mounds of latex.

So that makes computers a sort of special or gore effects “crutch”. That really makes me sad. Part of my love for Asian cinema comes from the respect I have for the sheer creativity of the filmmakers. Restricted budgets never stopped these guys before. They gave us wire fu and the arterial spray of many a Japanese movie. I couldn’t imagine Ichi the Killer with computerized blood. Computers are important to film effects, I know, but this really is ruining some otherwise fantastic films for me.

Oh how delightfully misogynistic the Japanese are, but they are this way for our benefit, so that makes it okay.
