Love Conquers All

So ... back in late July news surfaced of a potential big budget France-Korea co-production of Yoo Gwang-Soo’s acclaimed novel The Qin Shi Huang Project, a time hopping mystery / action / conspiracy theory sort of film revolving around the quest for the fountain of youth. Korea’s Odyssey Pictures hold the rights and, at the time, they were telling people that a number of French companies were on board, prime among them Luc Besson’s Europa Corp. Only problem? Seems they forgot to actually, you know, mention it to Besson, who has just disavowed any knowledge of the project whatsoever. Whoopsie. So all those reports and rumors floating around about how Besson vets Natalie Portman and Milla Jovovich had been cast in the film? Yeah, those are totally false. My thanks to Grozilla, who passed along the French press release that Europa have sent around on the matter. You’ll find it below the break.

Here’s a rough-and-ready English translation for non-French speaking readers:
Dear friends,
We are thrilled to learn that monsieur Besson will produce, and perhaps direct a film ... which he has never even heard about! We haven’t met with anyone concerning this project, which is totally unknown to us. Ariel Zeitoun, a producer and friend, has not spoken with us about it either.
This type of false information is common and certain producers take advantage of the buzz generated by it to bring attention to their projects. Although the freedom of the internet is something we hold dear, it would be prudent of internet users who handle the information, especially when it is made public, to abide by the following rules: the first, and most essential, consists of verifying the sources.
Let’s not make the internet, this wonderful tool, a mere trash bin.
Thank you,
EuropaCorp

Disclaimer by Ariel Zeitoun :
The news on certain sites announcing the particpation of Luc Besson and his company EuropaCorp, in the production and/or direction of a Korean thriller about «Le Roi de Quin», and of which I am also supposedly producer, or co-producer, is completely false and groundless. The subject of the film has never been proposed to him, and for good reason: as of this instant, nothing has been written!
Moreover, if I am involved in this project, I’ve never given so much as an interview with anybody concerning my exact involvement. The internet sites which have passed along differing accounts appear not to have verified their sources.

With Luc Besson, we never know what’s true or false. Maybe the opposite will be announced in the next months.
