Troubled Water
Right! A couple of good passes through the European Film Market has yielded a bunch of bits and bobs of news that don’t necessarily merit their own posts but are fun nonetheless. Here are a bunch:
The cast for Lars von Trier’s horror film Antichrist - which is definitely moving ahead - will be announced in Cannes.
Gaumont have a new promo for Jean Claude Van Damme’s action comedy JCVD and it looks absolutely fantastic. It’s beautifully shot, Van Damme’s looking all battered and weathered, and it’s far more complicated a project than I’d first understood. Yes, all the stuff pulled straight from his own life is very much present but there’s also a film within a film that amps up the action quotient and it looks to be not just a poking at a fallen celebrity but a very smart deconstruction of celebrity culture itself. This thing just jumped WAY up on my anticipated titles list.
Sahamongkol are wrapping up production on a new family oriented action film that matches up Australian behemoth Nathan Jones - you know him from Tom Yum Goong / The Protector and Fearless - with a pair of cute and cuddly Thai girls. Destruction and mayhem ensue.
Speaking of Sahamongkol, they’re sayig Nonzee Nimibutr’s much anticipated action fantasy film Queens of Pattani should definitely be done by Cannes.
Hanway Films are showing off one mighty compelling promo for their new superhero action fantasy Franklyn. It’s looking like a pretty schizophrenic film - some in the ‘real’ world, some in the fantasy fueled, superhero oriented alternate reality - but the hero stuff looks incredible and the cast is really, really solid.
And, finally, Wild Bunch have one absolutely killer promo for the Bong Joon-Ho directed segment of omnibus film Tokyo. Yes, please. This looks incredible ...

Need to see Queens of Pattani !!!
