I am a man of no particular tastes when it comes to music. I am pretty eclectic when it comes to what I listen to. One day it is Coldplay, the next it is As I Lay Dying. And then every so often I will slip the Beastie Boys and get ‘jiggy with it’ or whatever the hell it is all the yutes are saying these days. I have been a long, long time fan of the Beastie Boys. How long? I owned Ill Communication on LP. Dang! And so the news about a Beastie Boys documentary music movie sure was good news to me. That, and I get to write Awesome: I Fuckin’ Shot That and not get in trouble [I think] because it is the title of the movie.

One has to admit that the premise of the film isn’t all that original. Anyone will recall the videos by Aerosmith and Bon Jovi [shudder]. When a fan posted a clip of a Beastie Boys concert, filmed on their cell phone, on their message boards Adam Yauch, a.k.a Nathanial Hornblower, a.k.a MCA liked it so much it gave birth to the idea of letting fans film a Beastie Boys concert. 50 fans with hand-held Hi8 cameras shot a concert at Madison Square Garden back in October 2004. The footage was then spliced together over the following year and here we have Awesome: I Fuckin’ Shot That.

The film was shown at Sundance and it opens in theatres on March 31st. The more astute of you will know that there is an advance screening on Thursday, March 23rd in select cities around the States and Canada.

If I remeber right, after filming they took advantage of ” liberal return policies” and returned the 60 cameras. Something to think about if you have a weekend to do a short film with your friends wink

I think this is going to be sweet!

I’m a wee bit sad that I was laid up on Thursday night and missed said Toronto Sneak-Peak.

Dude. March TWENTY-THIRD. THIS Thursday. THIS Thursday. You haven’t missed anything yet. Unless of course you’re tied up THIS Thursday, like I may or may not be. Bah. They’ll still get my money. I will pay up to see this.

Ooooh.  Nice.  Eye.net’s way of reporting screenings has bollocks me up once again (not the first time!).  Good News.  I’ll likely see you there!

I saw a trailer for this in front of V for Vendetta yesterday, and they called it “One Awesome Night with the Beastie Boys”, instead of “Awesome, I Fuckin’ Shot That”. I hadn’t heard any news of a name change, has anyone else?

U.S. distributor ThinkFilm still shows the original title:

Kurt: If I am going to make one showing I will park my ass at Sheppard Grande. Sorry mate. It’s more local.

Well, if I had just done a little googling I could have easily answered my own question.. the name hasn’t changed at all. “An Awesome Night With the Beastie Boys” is the name being given to the screening this thursday. Apparently the film is going to screen with a 30 minute short called “A Day in the Life of Nathanial Hornblower”. So, yeah, no name change.
