Anyone seen this film yet? It conflicted with my schedule at last years Toronto Film Festival...so I missed it...with the connection (same source material) as Ghibli’s Castle of Coligostro (spelling?), I’m curious as to how this movie is in story and tone.

Looked kinda “eh” to me. And the French DVD having English subtitles? Not bloody likely.

I caught this at Toronto and although the general reaction seemed to be a little blah, my wife and I both enjoyed it quite a bit. I liked the period feel and I thought the lead actor was really good (and surprisingly goofy--but it worked for me) in the title role. It really feels nothing like the Miyazaki film. It moves at a nice pace and has a fast and loose tone. My only complaint might be that it goes for just a little too long with too many false climaxes and epilogues.

Wasn’t Spielberg planning on doing a Lupin film?
