It’s still a big tease, but at least it’s longer! Yukihiko Tsutsumi’s 20th Century Boys should be unleashed this summer in Japan; it’s all about a small group of friends trying to save the world from destruction by a mysterious organization over a fifty year period. The newest promo clip shows a lot of worried faces and plenty of dialog; since my Japanese is pretty rusty—OK, it’s non-existent—I have no idea how much the talking helps set the mood, but it’s still got me revved up. Is the furry animal suit an homage to Donnie Darko? Will that frustratingly brief look at a robot prove to be a red herring or an integral part of the story? I don’t know, but check out the nearly four-minute clip after the jump to get more of a feel for the movie.

The robot’s a big part of the story, BIG part, but not as one may imagine.

I must say I´m afraid about this becoming a new dorama nana style trilogy brrr…

This is rather disconcerting. They’ve turned it into a generic Japanese dorama. If it weren’t for the Robot, this would look no different than those made for TV movies or those cheap film adaptations of popular doramas.

I have no idea what was said or happening in that clip, but I liked it. I’m intrigued for sure.
They did need to show that Eye/hand icon about 30 more times though.

So the title is taken from T.Rex. Well, gotta catch up with manga quickly!

Can’t wait to see this. Everything in that promo clip is exactly from the manga. Cool.

I remember last year reading every single volume of the manga in one siting I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS!
