Heh.  A little bit of post-apocalyptic angst?  Check.  A wee bit of sci-fi?  Check.  A wee bit family drama?  Check.  A whole lot of black comedy?  You betcha.  I stumbled across the first news of Chris LaMont’s upcoming feature Quality Time over at Quiet Earth tonight and was struc not only by the look of the film but by the synopsis which comes across like Kafka meets a Philip K. Dick slacker comedy.  A strange combination, yes, but it just may work ...

In this avante-garde sci-fi drama, the world lives in a dysfunctional future, the global icecaps are melting, the military government controls all aspects of life and it’s still tough to talk to your parents.

Welcome to the surreal world of Stewart Savage, a young man with a tenuous grasp on reality. He lives with his parents, holds down a meaningless job and is only happy jumping between reality and the fantasy world inside his head.

He has trouble dating, so he strangles his girlfriends.  He despises his parents and leaves the bodies in the living room for them to clean up.  On the night of his dad’s birthday, he snaps and takes both families hostage at gunpoint and forces everyone to deal with their own demons, including his own.

Director LaMont has been good enough to provide us with a trio of stills from the film, which you’ll find at the link below.
